A professional organization operating under the AEAI – The Association of Engineers, Architects and Graduates in Technological Sciences in Israel, aimed at promoting excellence, innovation, and collaboration in the field of rail transport in Israel.
The Association serves as a unified professional framework for engineers, planners, entrepreneurs, academics, and stakeholders, working together to advance rail transport systems from the initial planning and construction stages through to operation and maintenance and testing & commissioning. Additionally, the Association operates extensively to integrate and create strategic collaborations with leading Israeli and international companies, bodies, and organizations in the fields of rail transport and technology, and in rail transport sectors within the Association such as metro, light rail, high-speed and conventional rail, along with all their systems.
We are committed to leading a professional and dynamic community focused on developing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and systematically influencing the future of public transport and rail logistics in Israel. Vision:
IART will lead the development of a safe, reliable, and innovative railway as a core pillar of Israel’s public and national transport system, advancing professional excellence, sustainability, and evidence-based policy. As a central, high-quality, and innovative sector within the public, urban, inter-city, and national transport system, Metro, light rail (LRT), commuter/regional, intercity/high-speed, and conventional/freight.
The vision includes raising public awareness of the importance of rail transport, advancing professional knowledge and skills in the field, strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange among professionals and stakeholders, and encouraging innovation and sustainability. The Israeli Rail Transport Association (IART) is committed to positively and continuously influencing public policy, regulation, and standardization, and to promoting research and technological development that serves the rail transport sector in the long term.
Association Goals and Objectives:
Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
- Creating professional frameworks for joint activity among experts in rail transport fields, according to dedicated professional domains and challenges directed at domestic activity, including learning from global practices.
- Organizing local and international conferences, workshops, and study days according to areas of interest to promote professional discourse and present innovations and solutions among different lines and projects in Israel and worldwide.
- Cultivating collaborations with academic research institutions in Israel and abroad, including Partnerships & Industry Engagement with national railway companies and local and international private companies. IART forms strategic MoUs and working ties with
- organizations, industry partners, and academic institutes to accelerate capability building and technology transfer.
Professional Community Development
- Creating an active, leading, professional, and dynamic network of professionals, experts, and researchers across different domains and stages throughout the lifecycle in the field of rail transport.
- Fostering a learning and mentorship environment to encourage personal and professional development.
- Promoting dialogue and knowledge transfer among professionals to cultivate a culture of continuous learning, mentorship, and enrichment of the professional and personal knowledge of Association members: veterans and young professionals, local and international, private and government companies.
Influence on Public Policy
- Professional and effective representation of the Association’s positions before decision-makers, regulatory authorities, standardization bodies, and government entities.
- Promoting quality, safety, and sustainable policy in the areas of planning, maintenance, and safety of rail systems.
- Increasing public and business awareness of the importance of rail transport as an engine for urban development and economic growth. In addition, environmental sustainability awareness, freight & logistics explicitly (yard ops, terminals, intermodal).
Innovation, Sustainability, and Technology
- Encouraging the use of advanced technologies in planning, management, operation, and maintenance of rail transport networks in RAMS & reliability engineering, digital twins/BIM, predictive condition monitoring, cybersecurity, and alternative traction.
- Supporting the development of solutions to advance and improve the rail transport sector specifically and promoting its integration into public transport generally.
- Creating effective connections between railway companies, private companies, technology companies, startups, and experts to develop breakthrough solutions in the field, for example in autonomous transport, digitization of transport systems, and alternative energies.
Knowledge Dissemination and Research
- Creating a platform for publishing academic articles, professional papers, newsletters, bulletins, and current reviews and professional updates.
- As part of the platform, promoting knowledge and information management in the field of rail transport and making them accessible to Association members, such as digital information for sharing knowledge, lessons learned, and professional challenges in the sector.
- Collaborating with leading research institutions in Israel and abroad to advance applied and academic research to promote the sector.
Association Membership:
Association membership is intended for all professionals working in the field of rail transport, including engineers from various disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical, transport, aeronautical), architects, academics and researchers, planners, consultants, regulation, contract, and standardization experts, government officials and local authorities, infrastructure managers, industry employees, entrepreneurs, and startups.
Association members enjoy access to unique professional events, participation in training and enrichment programs, quality networking, opportunities for personal development and advancement, as well as the ability to actively and meaningfully influence the future of rail transport in Israel.
Association Board Members:
The Association is headed by Dr. Denis A. Yurlov, an engineer, lecturer and researcher with expertise and experience in rail transport locally and internationally. Dr. Yurlov holds unique international academic education in the field of railways, as well as professional experience and collaborations with international railway organizations.
