Israeli Forum of Laser Materials Processing-IFLMP
Announcement
The Israeli Forum of Laser Materials Processing at the Architects and Engineers Association Israel (AEAI ) is kindly inviting you to participate in a webinar of two lectures on laser welding: The scope of the first talk “Trend in Laser Welding Applications” is to present the most recent trends in laser welding applications, showing how the introduction of new welding techniques, the evolution of laser sources technology and the development of monitoring tools have transformed the laser source in an extremely versatile tool. The second talk “Laser welding of thick metals in an industrial environment” will present the ability of Dynamic Beam Lasers to overcome welding of thick metals (above 20 mm) by means of focus steering and beam shaping.
Target audience will include engineers, technical managers / directors and influencers from advanced manufacturing companies and academia. Students and apprentices are also likely to benefit, as well as business and procurement managers who may be making decisions on adopting advanced manufacturing processes or building new / better products.
This webinar is endorsed by the European Materials Research Society (EMRS)
The webinar is scheduled on November 15th , 2022 at 10:00-12:00 Jerusalem time.

10:00-10:40 – Speaker: Ing. Gianluca Motter, Senior Sales – IPG Photonics (Italy)
Talk topic: Trends in Laser Welding Application
Abstract: In recent years the availability of a new generation of high power fiber lasers, the development of new welding techniques and new monitoring tools has completely changed the welding applications scenario. Evolution of laser welding techniques from traditional round shaped beam to more complex beam shapes, implemented in time domain by beam oscillation, aka wobbling, or in space domain by means of adjustable mode beams or DOEs, provides welding engineers new ways to solve modern materials welding challenges. Wobbling technique, is a simple and flexible solution that can help with a wide range of applications, from welding high reflective materials to preventing porosity in aluminium joints or optimizing the seams shape. Adjustable Mode Beam laser sources can provide high speed, crack and spatter free joints on a wide range of materials e.g., steel, copper, aluminium. Inline coherent imaging technology gives us an amazing insight of the welding process, providing direct measurement of welding penetration depth, seam width, surface shape and much more information valuable for quality assurance engineers. The combination of these tools allows us to successfully apply laser welding to a wide range of products and face the challenges that new materials and the production of Electric Vehicles are bringing us.
10:40- 11:20 – Speaker Dr. Asaf Nissenbaum, Research Engineer, Civan Lasers, Jerusalem, Israel
Talk topic: Laser welding of thick metals in an industrial environment
Abstract: The talk will present the ability of Dynamic Beam Lasers to overcome welding of thick metals (above 20 mm) by means of focus steering and beam shaping. By these means, a quality profile with reduced defects at high welding depth.
11:20-11:50 – Q&A
